: Samsung Galaxy S: Update on Android 2.2 Froyo Release Date
smithy 10-06-2010, 06:35 PM October 6, 2010
"We have an update for our readers in the UK who are patiently waiting for Android 2.2 Froyo on the Samsung Galaxy S now, as Samsung has confirmed that the update has been delayed for a short while.
As reported from CNETUK, the update will be delayed on all four major carriers in the UK, but Samsung has reassured us that the update will be available before the end of this month.
If you didn’t know already, the Froyo update was due on the Galaxy S at the end of September in the UK, while Galaxy S users in the US are also waiting for Samsung to get their act together.
Samsung also stated that users on T-Mobille, Orange, Vodafone and O2 would receive the update to Android 2.2 Froyo ‘at the same time’ – let’s see if they can stick to that bold statement."

andy-roid 10-09-2010, 08:22 AM I've been told that the reason its been delayed is because of kies problems
Goots 10-09-2010, 10:51 AM I'm wondering if Samsung are doing the release differently this time. That statement about users on all networks getting the update at the same time is interesting because usually, it's up to the networks to release the firmware updates, not the manufacturers.
Maybe Samsung are working in conjunction with the service providers in order to give out a synchronised firmware update or something.
Briggs 10-09-2010, 05:10 PM Lets just hope it actually comes out this time and no further delays!!
andy-roid 10-09-2010, 11:09 PM Galaxy s has been added to the Samsung firmware page

nathsgames 10-15-2010, 09:38 AM But it just tells you to install Kies, not much use really
smithy 10-15-2010, 10:00 AM "As reported from Phandroid, it has now been confirmed that the source code released yesterday has now been removed from download by Samsung.
They haven’t stated a reason why, meaning that the download probably appeared a little early, and against the authority of Samsung themselves. This of course could have a negative effect for Galaxy S users waiting for the Froyo update, but don’t forget that an unofficial Froyo ROM for the stock Galaxy S may still be on the cards.
For those waiting for the official update though – the wait continues with no sign of an ETA. Let us know your thoughts on this."
smithy 10-16-2010, 07:53 AM "Good news if you own a Samsung Galaxy S smartphone, as Samsung has just announced that they are rolling out Android 2.2 Froyo to all Samsung Galaxy S smartphones.
Some users in Norway, Denmark and Sweden have already reported that the update is available for them, and Android 2.2 will be available via Kies, which is Samsung’s in house software update program."
smithy 10-16-2010, 09:22 AM "A few hours ago we informed you that the official update to Android 2.2 Froyo on the Samsung Galaxy S was now starting to roll out in a select number of countries. For those of you who have already installed the update – have you noticed any problems?
Just like the Froyo updates to the Motorola Droid X and HTC Incredible, the update process is not always an easy ride. Considering that the Froyo update is a large one and packed full of new features and functionality, there are often a fair amount of bugs and problems which come along with it.
Judging from the feedback so far on the Froyo update, there doesn’t appear to be any major problems, which is a good sign. However, the update has only been live for a few hours, so problems may be found over the weekend. If you have Froyo installed already on your Galaxy S, let us know how your update is performing at the moment."

steviweavi 10-17-2010, 06:09 PM Just updated to Froyo 2.2, following the suggestions from here http://getandroidstuff.com/tutorial-force-kies-update-samsung-galaxy-regedit-guide/ used the settings suggested and updated via kies, all very simple and works like a dream...
steviweavi 10-17-2010, 07:46 PM Just an update, everything is running like a dream, very pleased. The only problem I have is no Android Market app. I tried the suggested fix on here and it said ussd code running and then Rejected, any ideas anyone?
steviweavi 10-18-2010, 07:50 PM Did a reset to factory settings and now have Android Market icon, so everything is working fine now....
haggis_supper 10-23-2010, 01:37 PM Has anyone updated there vodafone UK galaxy s using the above method.
I'd like to try it out, but not at the consequence of bricking my phone.

smithy 10-23-2010, 03:07 PM I am with T-mobile so unfortunately I can't say I have, not for the lack of trying. But Kies is the official Samsung software and will update to an official firmware version, I'm pretty sure this means your phone shouldn't have any problems and would still be covered under it's warranty if the worst was to happen. The problems arise when you manually update to an unofficial firmware and your warranty becomes void.
Has anyone updated there vodafone UK galaxy s using the above method.

smithy 10-23-2010, 06:41 PM "Samsung has just released a statement about the Android 2.2 Froyo update for the Samsung Galaxy S range of smartphones, and it seems all models with all mobile carriers will be getting the update in November 2010.
The update will be available for the Samsung Galaxy S in the UK in early November and it will also be coming to the US models of the Galaxy S which include the Vibrant, Captivate, Epic 4G and Fascinate by the end of November.
The Android 2.2 upgrade, will be available via Kies, Samsung’s in-house software upgrade programme. Samsung has developed a brand new version of Kies which will be issued to make the upgrade experience as smooth as possible. The new version of Kies will be downloadable from www.samsungmobile.co.uk"
genman 10-27-2010, 07:37 PM On another forum I read that Vodafone will not work on any phone that has had a firmware update as they are not the source...forces the owner to work direct with Samsung to resolve future issues.
So lets hope that 2.2 update can be reversed if needed.
Goots 10-27-2010, 07:41 PM Oh I hope that's not true, but it is entirely feasible.
That could give other networks some dangerous ideas :(

That is typical of Vodafone but I'm sure there will be a work around found if one is needed so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
