Ok this is my first post so sorry if this has been posted before.

I have an galaxy s got it beginning of september on orange in the UK. Now I read alot about this so call update for this phone but still not got a clue what its for and does, what effect it will have to the use of my phone so my questions are:-

1. what is this update
2. whats it for
3. whats it do
4. how do I get it will orange send it to my phone.
5. Is it likely to loose items on my phone ie contacts.
6. would it be better to not bother with it and leave the phone as it is.
7. Now when it comes to all this tec stuff I not got a clue if I did update it is it a easy thing to do or is there a chance i could stuff my phone up and make it useless.

think I leave it at that for now, sorry if its alot of questions and hope i posted in the right section.

Does the Kies software work for you ??

If it does, that's where you will get your firmware updates from. (Although there are a hell of a lot of people on Orange with JF3 Firmware that aren't being allowed to upgrade because Orange don't want you to).

Updates generally fix bugs, make things more stable, add features and cool things to your phone and generally make it better/smoother with increased functionality and a better looking interface.

You will lose your contacts but that won't matter if you're syncing with your online google account right ? ;)

If you are happy with your phone then I guess there is no real need to upgrade, but as it stands your phone could be a lot better, it's completely up to you.

There is always a risk of bricking your phone when doing an update, but if you do it the official way (ie through Kies) then you are covered by warranty.
