Looking to flash as just tried Voodoo lag fix which has messed up screen brightness when set to lowest, screen looks very dull with red tint even after removing it.. Not good.
So want to flash, are any of the 2.2 firmwares actually usable yet? as in does everything work?
Or should I stick with 2.1, whats the best version available?
Any custom roms? pre-rooted, with lag fix?? working GPS? etc..

I haven't tried any 2.2 firmwares yet, and I have made a promise to myself to wait for the official 2.2 from Samsung. Until then I will remain on 2.1. I've read too much on the net about various problems with the 2.2 roms available. So my personal advice to you is to stick with 2.1 for now.
I recommend you check out Doc's RomMod v4 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723103
I like Doc's a lot. But I started getting a lot of force closes for Launcher Pro, TWLauncher, android.process.acore and Swype so I had to install something else. I'm now on stock JM7 which I have modified a bit by adding notification bar icons from the HTC Desire and also I've uninstalled all the Samsung bloatware, live wallpapers and such.
I used SamSet roms for a long time, but I was having some lag issues with them... But the SamSet stuff is great too, do check 1.9f out here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=724576
GPS is much better in JM7, I feel. I get a real quick lock and although I haven't done any extensive testing, I do feel like I can trust the GPS now. It loses satellite lock every now and then so it's a bit spotty, definitely. But definitely much better than on JM5 and earlier firmwares.
